HRH The Crown Princess visits Mozambique

In the role as patron of the United Nations Population Fund, HRH The Crown Princess visits Mozambique from 9 - 13 November 2012.

The object of the visit is to bring rights and reproductive health into focus, and is in continuation of the involvement of The Crown Princess within the fields of maternal health and family planning. 

The Crown Princess will be accompanied by the Danish Minister of Development Cooperation, Christian Friis Bach.

 

 

During the visit, The Crown Princess and the Development Minister visit organizations which among others fight HIV and support young women suffering from illnesses in consequence of premature delivery. Likewise, The Crown Princess and the Minister will inaugurate village nursing homes to gain an insight into the work on health, pregnancy, and maternal mortality. Additionally, there will be conversations with women, men, and young people in Mozambique in relation to their challenges regarding life and family planning. 

 

 

 

The Crown Princess and the Minister will also visit a number of Danida projects within the fields of environment and adaption to climate change.

Maputo

Meeting with prime minister

HRH The Crown Princess and development minister Christian Friis Bach meet with Mozambique’s prime minister, Alberto Vaquina.

Meeting with health minister

The Crown Princess and the development minister meet with Mozambique’s health minister, Dr. Alexandre Manguene.

AMODEFA clinic
16.00

The Crown Princess and the development minister visit AMODEFA’s (Mozambican Family Development Association’s) clinic in Maputo, which counsels young people about reproductive and sexual health. The Crown Princess and the minister inspect the clinic, including the youth section, and greet the clinic’s users. AMODEFA co-operates with UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund) to promote reproductive health among young people through education, information and counselling. 

Reception

The Crown Princess and the development minister take part in a reception at Maputo Fort held by The Danish Embassy in Mozambique. The Crown Princess gives a speech.

The Crown Princess and the development minister visit UNFPA and are received by UNFPA Country Director Bettina Maas and UN Resident Coordinator Jennifer Toppings. 

Forum Mulher
10.00

The Crown Princess and the development minister visit the organization Forum Mulher, which works to promote women’s rights in Mozambique, and get a presentation of the organization’s activities.  Through education, support and lobbying, Forum Mulher attempts to promote women’s reproductive health and women’s participation in political and economic matters. 

MozArte Youth Centre

The Crown Princess and the development minister take part in a conference at MozArte Youth Centre with participation by the UNFPA and youth organizations that put a focus on life and family planning. The Crown Princess and the minister attend a debate about youth and contraception.

Beira in the Sofala province

Beira Municipal Truck Terminal

The Crown Princess and the development minister visit the Danida-supported project ”Beira Municipal Truck Terminal”, where women are, among other things, trained to drive trucks and ambulances. The Crown Princess and the minister are given a presentation about the project and greet some of the women there.

Centre for battered women

The Crown Princess and the development minister open a Danida-supported centre for battered women in Beira. The Crown Princess gives the opening speech and afterwards inspects the centre and greets residents. Going forward, the place will be both a treatment and counselling centre for battered women in Beira. 

Beira Central Hospital

The Crown Princess visits Beira Central Hospital and gets a presentation about the challenges Mozambique has with women’s fistula disorders. Fistula is a widespread condition in Mozambique and can, among other things, be the result of protracted births. The Crown Princess will have an opportunity to greet the hospital’s fistula patients and surgeons and will also get a presentation about the hospital’s treatment methods.

The Crown Princess and the development minister visit Dondo District Hospital and get a presentation about the hospital’s work with maternal health in rural areas, including obstetric aid, training of midwives, and maternity care.

The Crown Princess visits Dondo Community and meets with members of the health committee in Dondo. 
  
CleanStar/Novozymes,

The Crown Princess and the development minister visit an ethanol factory backed by the project CleanStar and the Danish company Novozymes. The Crown Princess and the minister tour the factory and get a presentation about the project, in which ethanol replaces health-threatening and environmentally-harmful charcoal in connection with household cooking. 
 
The photo exhibition ”Lives in Reconstruction”

At Universidade Pedagógiga (Pedagogical University) in Beira, The Crown Princess and the development minister attend the opening of the photo exhibition ”Lives in Reconstruction”. The photo exhibition shows portraits of and presents stories about women who have lived with fistula.

The Crown Princess and the development minister visit Secondary School Josina Machel in Maputo. The Crown Princess and the minister attend a discussion forum in one of the school’s classrooms, where young women will discuss sex and health.
