Information on accreditation: State visit from Iceland

President Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson and First Lady Eliza Jean Reid come on a state visit to Denmark on 24 and 25 January 2017. President Guðni Jóhannesson took office on 1 August 2016. In Iceland, there is a tradition that the president’s first state visit is to Denmark, and that underscores the close connections that exist between Denmark and Iceland.

Accreditation and application for pool spots is obligatory for the media and takes place through the International Press Centre (IPC) on the website www.ipcd.dk, where the press programme for the visit is also available.

The deadline for accreditation is Tuesday, 17 January at 16.00

With the Icelandic state visit, the desire is to expand upon the close Danish-Icelandic relations. Among other things, the programme will focus on cultural elements and business. The President and First Lady are accompanied by a business delegation of 20 of the largest Icelandic companies, which, among other things, will take part in a seminar at the Confederation of Danish Industry together with Danish companies.

Later the same day, the President and First Lady pay visits with Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and the Speaker of the Danish Parliament, Pia Kjærsgaard.

As part of the state visit, Iceland will present a national gift to Denmark in the form of a large number of collected, retranslated sagas, which will be accessible at Danish libraries and institutions of higher learning. The national gift will be presented to culture minister Mette Bock in the presence of HM The Queen at The Black Diamond.

In the evening, The Queen and Prince Henrik host a state dinner in honour of the President and First Lady at Christian den VII’s Palace with the participation of the royal family, officials of the government, the Presidium of the Danish Parliament, the Icelandic delegation and selected companies.

On Wednesday, 25 January, the Icelandic President and HRH The Crown Prince visit the Confederation of Danish Industry as well as State of Green. The same day, the First Lady and HRH The Crown Princess visit a kindergarten that works with The Mary Foundation’s projects as well as the UN City.
