Press Release: The Crown Princess opens new Nordic museum in Seattle, USA

HRH The Crown Princess travels to Seattle on 3 May to lead a Danish arts and culture promotional campaign in the USA. Foreign affairs minister Anders Samuelsen accompanies The Crown Princess during the visit. Together with representatives of the other Nordic countries, The Crown Princess opens the new Nordic Museum, and Her Royal Highness is also the guest of honour at the launching of the Danish culture promotional campaign, which will support Danish art and culture throughout the USA.

On 5 May, the Nordic Museum in Seattle opens the doors to a completely new building, which in modern settings exhibits the Nordic countries’ histories, cultural influence and presence in the USA. All five Nordic countries have supported and followed the construction of the new museum, and The Crown Princess and the foreign minister will be on hand for the official opening together with representatives of the other Nordic countries. The new museum was designed by the Nordic architectural firm Mithun and is inspired by the Nordic fjords. Construction has been going on since 2012 and has cost 45 million USD.

Danish culture promotional campaign in USA
In connection with the visit in Seattle, a Danish culture promotional campaign backed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture will be unveiled. Together with Danish genre organizations in the areas of, among others, music, film, architecture and design, official Denmark, over the next three years, will work in a targeted way to create even better conditions for Danish art and culture in the USA and give Danish artists a better foundation for being able to stand and make a name for themselves.
