Celebration of 40th anniversary of the adoption of the World Heritage convention
HRH Princess Marie, in her role as patron of the Danish National Commission for UNESCO, takes part in the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the adoption of the World Heritage Convention at Kronborg Castle in Helsingør (Elsinore) tomorrow at 12.00.
In connection with the celebration, the Princess will award prizes to the winners of the school competition “Legacy to the world – World Heritage for the future”. The UNESCO Convention of 1972 is aimed at protecting the world’s cultural and natural heritage, and on the occasion of the 40th anniversary, the Ministry of Children and Education in co-operation with the Danish Agency for Culture under the Ministry of Culture initiated the competition among the country’s schools.
By means of creative, innovative and sustainable processes, children and youth have worked with world heritage within the categories of games, storytelling and communication. Among other things, students have developed board games, digital games and stories about one or more cultural heritage sites.
The Princess, along with Children and Education minister Christine Antorini, will inspect the students’ stands, after which the Princess will preside over the presentation of awards to the three winners in the categories in question.
