In connection with Culture Night 2013, it will be possible, among other things, to see The Royal Stables and the Main Floor in Christian VIII’s Palace after nightfall.

On Friday, 11 October, the Royal Stables will hold a display on the Christiansborg Riding Ground on the occasion of Culture Night 2013. At the display, there will be demonstrations of driving with two different coaches, after which the Royal Hussar Guard Regiment’s Horse Squadron will present, among other things, traditional exercises for mounted sabre battle and formation riding.

Besides the displays, the Royal Stables can be visited until midnight. Housed in the stalls are horses and coaches used for special occasions, including weddings and state visits. Among the royal vehicles visitors can see is the Gold Coach, which is used by The Queen and The Prince Consort during New Year’s levees in January for transport from Amalienborg to Christiansborg Palace.

In Christian VIII’s Palace, the Main Floor will be open for visitors who want to see the Palace’s rooms and the museum’s permanent exhibitions. On the Main Floor, which stands redecorated as it appeared in the 1700s and 1800s, classical music pieces will be performed during the course of the evening as time period examples of the music that the Glücksborg family has heard.

In addition, there is an opportunity to see Rosenborg Castle and Christiansborg Palace in connection with Culture Night. In the Great Hall at Christiansborg Palace, you can listen to banquet music performed by the Royal Life Guard’s Music Corps and see Bjørn Nørgaard’s gobelins (tapestries), which were presented as a gift on the occasion of HM The Queen’s 50th birthday.
