About The Queen Isabella Foundation
The Queen Isabella Foundation was established in Madrid on 5 June 2002 on the initiative of the then-Danish ambassador Christopher Bo Bramsen. The foundation’s primary purpose is to promote, sponsor and finance Danish cultural activities in Spain.

The foundation takes its name from King Christian II’s queen, who as Princess Isabella of Castile came to Copenhagen in 1515. With her European background and education, she worked to leave her mark on Danish cultural life of the past and to create interest in Denmark for the countries to the south. In that way, Queen Isabella helped open the way for the cultural contacts between Denmark and Spain.

Queen Isabella is interred in Saint Knud’s Church in Odense.
