HRH The Crown Prince opens School Olympic Games finale

The Crown Prince, together with two athletes from the Olympic Games in London, Sara Slott Petersen and Rasmus Quaade, opens the finals of the School Olympic Games in Østerbro Stadium, Copenhagen.

In all, 5,500 children from 244 school classes will be at the finale, which takes place 10 – 12 June. 
The children who have qualified are from the 4, 5 and 6 classes – one half of them from Copenhagen, the other half from the rest of the country. Those from the 4 class level are in action on 10 June, from the 5 class level on 11 June and from the 6 class level on 12 June.

The finals begin at 09.00 with a march in and the national anthem, after which the School Olympic Games flame will be lit. After welcoming speeches by the Sports Confederation of Denmark chairman Niels Nygaard and Copenhagen mayor Frank Jensen, The Crown Prince, Sara Plott Petersen and Rasmus Quaade start the first races. 

There are contests in the 60 m run, the long jump, ball throwing, the 400 m run and the relay, and there are both individual competitions and class competitions.

About School Olympic Games

Children in the 4-6 classes can experience the school Olympics every year, with disciplines for children in running, jumping and throwing. The School Olympic Games went nationwide in Olympics year 2012 after having been a Copenhagen event since 2009.
