Programme for HM The Queen and HRH The Prince Consort’s summer cruise, 2–6 September 2012

The Queen and The Prince Consort are on a summer cruise with The Royal Yacht Dannebrog and are paying visits to Skanderborg, Billund/Grindsted, Næstved, Bornholm and Christiansø from 2-6 September. 

The Regional State Administration and the individual municipalities have planned the programmes for the visits in co-operation with The Lord Chamberlain’s Office.   

The programme for The Queen and The Prince Consort’s summer cruise from 2-6 September can be seen in the right column.

Official visit in Skanderborg

The Queen and The Prince Consort arrive at the AVK building in Skovby and are received by Central Region of Denmark director Torben Sørensen, mayor Jørgen Gaarde, Susanne Benedikte Gaarde and 1st vice mayor Tage Nielsen.

Hørning BørneUnivers

The Prince Consort inaugurates Hørning BørneUnivers and afterwards is shown around the new day care centre. Hørning BørneUnivers is Denmark’s first public-private partnership day care centre with a capacity of 250 children and 50-60 staff members.

Skanderborg Museum

HM The Queen visits Skanderborg Museum, where she inspects its collections, including archaeological artefacts from excavations in Alken Enge.  

The Village of Sølund

The Queen visits The Village of Sølund, a residence for people with physical and psychological handicaps, and tours The Golden Horn, a so-called snoezelhus, which contains specially equipped spaces to sort or intensify sensations. Then the place’s sensory garden is shown. 
 

Vestermølle

The Prince Consort visits Vestermølle, a more than 500 year-old, newly renovated mill farm, which today includes a culture, activity and interpretation centre. After a presentation of Vestermølle’s various activities, The Prince Consort inaugurates the newly renovated barn. 

Boat trip on Skanderborg Lake

The Queen and The Prince Consort sail on M/S Dagmar over Skanderborg Lake from Vestermølle to Kulturhuset Skanderborg (Skanderborg Cultural Centre). 

Skanderborg Cultural Centre

The Queen and The Prince Consort tour Skanderborg Cultural Centre, which among other things contains a theatre, meeting rooms and a cinema. The cultural centre is run by approximately 200 volunteers and is visited by around 300,000 guests each year. 

The Skanderborg Festival Smukfest in Dyrehaven

The Queen and The Prince Consort are seated in front of Bøgescenen and introduced to the various ways of living the festival is known for. Afterwards, Smukfest is introduced on Bøgescenen. The mayor offers thanks for the visit and presents the municipality’s gift to The Queen and The Prince Consort.

The Queen and The Prince Consort arrive at Billund City Hall and are received by Region of Southern Denmark director Ninna Würtzen, Hans Würtzen, mayor Ib Kristensen and Jytte Kristensen. During the arrival, the Slesvig Music Corps plays “King Christian”.

The mayor accompanies The Queen and The Prince Consort to the city council chamber, where the mayor speaks and the city’s gift is presented to The Queen and The Prince Consort. Afterwards, The Queen and The Prince Consort ride with mayor Ib Kristensen and Jytte Kristensen in a carriage to MAGION. 

MAGION

The Queen and The Prince Consort inspect MAGION, a recreation and cultural centre that has nearly 8000 square meters of space and, among other things, includes a library, swimming pools, a multi-arena, rehabilitation facilities and several stages, which are used for lectures, theatre and small concerts.

The Prince Consort visits DuPont, a plant that produces food ingredients and enzymes. 

The House of Ølholm

The Queen visits The House of Ølholm, where the artist Bodil Ølholm works with handmade textile design. Bodil Ølholm uses old Danish craft traditions dating back to the Bronze Ages in her modern designs of unique silk scarves and shawls. 

DAVINCI development A/S

The Queen visits DAVINCI development, which was founded in 2000 with headquarters in Billund. DAVINCI development is a high-tech company, which among other things produces 3D prototypes and 3D printing with the help of so-called rapid prototyping.  

Sun-Air Scandinavia A/S

The Prince Consort visits Sun-Air Scandinavia A/S. The firm was founded in 1978 with the renovation and trade of aircraft as its core business. The company currently has approximately 150 employees. 

The LEGO Group

The Queen and The Prince Consort visit LEGO’s main office in Billund. The LEGO Group, which was founded in 1932, involves itself with the development of children’s creativity through play and learning, and has approximately 10,000 employees in branches worldwide.

The Billund Centre & Capital of Children

The Queen and The Prince Consort visit The Billund Centre and are presented with rhythmic and classical music entertainment in Billund Culture School’s music classrooms. Afterwards, The Queen and The Prince Consort visit the theatre, Billund Church and the centre’s library, from which they can view the sculpture installation “The Little Prince” by the sculptor Jens Galschiøt. The mayor thanks The Queen and The Prince Consort for the visit to Billund/Grindsted.

The Royal Yacht Dannebrog arrives in Næstved Harbour, where The Queen and The Prince Consort are received by Region Zealand director Helle Haxgart, Mr. Peter Haxgart, mayor Carsten Rasmussen, his wife Lisbeth Rasmussen and vice mayor Linda Frederiksen. During the arrival, the Royal Life Guard’s Music Corps plays “King Christian”. 

“Slattenpatten og hendes døtre”

The Queen and The Prince Consort view Bjørn Nørgaard’s sculpture “Slattenpatten og hendes døtre” on Axeltorv and are introduced to one of the town’s Talende skraldespand ("talking rubbish bins").

Rønnebæksholm Cultural Centre

The Queen and The Prince Consort visit Rønnebæksholm Culture Centre and Manor House Garden. Afterwards, The Queen and The Prince Consort visit Venligheden, a pavilion built by Grundtvig’s second wife, Marie Toft, and they view the art exhibition,  “En verden udenfor” (“A World Outside”)

The Language and Integration Centre

The Queen visits The Language and Integration Centre in the old Hussar Guard barracks, where adult immigrants can, among other things, be taught Danish as a second language.  

Fredskov Installation

The Prince Consort inspects Fredskov Installation, a former mobilisation depot, which today houses a collection of vehicles going back to the Second World War. 

The Dahl Brothers’ Climate Centre

The Prince Consort visits the Dahl Brothers’ Climate Centre, which opened in June 2012 and was built to meet future requirements for energy use. In the centre, one can see many different types of geothermal systems, solar cells, circulation pumps, bio-fuel boilers, solar heating and ventilation systems. 

FabHouse

The Queen visits FabLab (Fabrikations Laboratorium) in FabHouse. FabLab is a creative workshop that seeks to attract and inspire entrepreneurs and innovators and provide a creative space with room for idea development and sparring.  

Tvedemose Champignon

The Prince Consort visits Tvedemose Champignon, which is owned by the Hansen family. Through 40 years and three generations at Tvedemose, the Hansen family has built up knowledge about the cultivation and processing of champignons and now produces 1000 tonnes of mushrooms each year. 

Juvita Wallpaper Factory

The Queen visits Juvita Wallpaper Factory, which produces wallpaper both in Denmark and abroad. Work is underway on a wallpaper collection featuring H.C. Andersen’s fairy tales.   

Urban Art on the Center Pier

The Queen and The Prince Consort view the project Urban Art on the Center Pier in Næstved. This urban art has its roots in 1970s New York and is expressed, among other things, with breakdancing.

The Royal Yacht Dannebrog sails from Næstved Harbour to Rønne Harbour. There will be a torchlight procession, choir and fireworks on the dock during the departure, as well as torches and singing when The Royal Yacht Dannebrog passes the bridge at Karrebæksminde.

The Royal Yacht Dannebrog arrives at Rønne Harbour, saluted by 27 shots. The Queen and The Prince Consort are greeted by Capital Region of Denmark director Niels Preisler and mayor Winni Grosbøll.

The Queen and The Prince Consort ride together with the mayor from Rønne Harbour accompanied by the Horse Squadron of the Royal Hussar Guard Regiment.

Ceremony at the memorial for Danes sent abroad on official duty

The Queen and The Prince Consort take part in the ceremony on the occasion of the official flag day for all who Denmark has sent abroad on official duty. The mayor gives a speech.

In the garden behind the old Chief Magistrate’s Farm, the mayor gives a speech and presents the Regional Municipality of Bornholm’s gift to The Queen and The Prince Consort. 

Parade and wreath-laying at Almegård’s Barracks

The Queen and The Prince Consort lay a wreath by the memorial for the fallen soldiers from the Hussar Guard Regiment’s Reconnaissance Battalion.  

Luncheon at Stammershalle Seaside Hotel

The Queen and The Prince Consort participate in a luncheon at Stammershalle Seaside Hotel. 

Jensen Danmark A/S

The Queen visits Jensen Danmark A/S, which produces advanced machinery for industrial laundries worldwide. During the visit, a folding machine will be demonstrated.  

Bornholms Mosteri (Bornholm Cider Mill)

The Prince Consort visits Bornholm Cider Mill, which is a social-economic business. During the visit, samples from Bornholm Cider Mill will be served. 
 
Østkraft’s Villa Smart

The Prince Consort visits Villa Smart and is introduced to the Eco Grid project, which works with the challenges that arise with larger amounts of electricity generated by windmills. The project will further expand the intelligent electricity network, Smart Grid.  

Snorrebakken Nursing Centre

The Queen visits the new Snorrebakken Nursing Centre, which was opened in August 2012. The Queen is introduced to the centre’s service facilities and daily activities, and she visits one of the nursing centre’s residents. 

Concert at Hammershus

The Queen and The Prince Consort attend a concert event at Hammershus with entertainment by Rie Dam, Mythos with Bjarke Mogensen and Rasmus Kjøller, opera singer Niels Jørgen Riis, the Young Care Orchestra, the Bornholm Guard with the drum corps, and Henrik Krogsgaard’s Quartet.

The Queen visits ceramist Anne Mette Hjortshøj’s workshop and gallery, which is shared with Ann Charlotte Ohlsson. The Queen is introduced to samples of the artists’ works and is shown around the workshop afterwards. 

The Bison Project in Almindingen

The Prince Consort takes a look at The Bison Project in Almindingen, where State forester Søren Friese shows The Prince Consort the area containing bison around Svinemose. Bornholm has received 7 bison from Poland as part of a European breeding program. 

Bornholm Co-operative Dairy

The Queen visits Bornholm Co-operative Dairy, where she gets a tour of the production rooms and is introduced to samples of products made there.  Bornholm Co-operative Dairy is especially known for producing cheese, such as Danablu. 

Bornholms Canning Factory, Bornholms A/S

The Prince Consort visits Bornholms A/S, which has been a family-owned business for 3 generations. The factory was founded in 1915 and produces, among other things, a number of fish products such as cod roe and patés, and it also focuses on innovation in relation to products and packaging. 
 
Bornholm Art Museum

The Queen visits Bornholm Art Musem and gets a presentation of European Glass Context 2012, which officially opens later in September. 

The Nexø House

The Prince Consort visits The Nexø House, which is available to adults with impaired physical and psychological functions. The house is newly renovated and remodelled so that all residents have their own apartments with common areas. 

Svaneke Brewhouse, Brewery

The Prince Consort visits the Svaneke Brewhouse, which was among the first microbreweries in Denmark. The Bornholm brewery is fit with the latest, newest environmentally and energy-conscious technologies in equipment and processes.
 
Goldsmith Sebastian Frost

The Queen visits goldsmith Sebastian Frost, who primarily manufactures unique products. Sebastian Frost has donated the Regional Municipality’s gift to The Queen.

Closing event at Listed Harbour

The Queen and The Prince Consort attend the closing event with a gymnastics performance by DGI-Bornholm, singing by the Nylars Choir and a farewell speech by mayor Winni Grosbøll.

The Queen and The Prince Consort sail to The Royal Yacht Dannebrog by barge, after which The Royal Yacht sails to Christiansø.  

Official visit to Christiansø and Frederiksø

The Queen and The Prince Consort arrive by barge at the dock of Christiansøfarten and are received by Christiansø chief Orla Johannsen and his wife Mona Jensen,  Christiansø deputy chief Ulrik Lønkjær, Capital Region of Denmark director Niels Preisler and Bornholm Police director Peter Møller Nielsen. 

Christiansø Church
The Queen and The Prince Consort stroll to Christiansø Church accompanied by Orla Johannsen and Mona Jensen. Christiansø Church has undergone an extensive restoration, which concluded with a re-dedication on 13 April 2008.  

Store Tårn (Great Tower)
The Queen and The Prince Consort visit the Great Tower. which since 1879 has been without a roof. Because of that, the tower walls have been worn and are decaying. There are plans underway for a restoration of the Great Tower, including a glass cover.  

Frog life and church cemetery
The Queen strolls in the company of local guide Marit Starn further along the route, where she hears about places such as “The Pump”, which has a very rich amount of frog life, and the island’s church cemetery.  
 
Soldiers’ Huts 
The Queen visits the so-called soldiers’ huts, which consist of small, idyllic gardens and which were originally used as outbuildings for married soldiers. 

Palivaren
The Queen visits Palivaren and is introduced to the exhibition “Art minimal”. Palivaren was originally used by the quarantine doctor when ships arrived from other countries. Today, Palivaren is used as a little exhibition hall where artists and craftspeople can display their work throughout the summer.  

Gaden (The Street)
Afterward, The Queen will be led along The Street, which includes two barracks buildings constructed from 1789-91. They now contain modern apartments, and the island’s post office is also located on The Street. 

Swing bridge
The Queen is accompanied to the harbour and the swing bridge, which connects Christiansø and Frederiksø. The swing bridge is 100 years old this year and bears the monogram of Christian X.  
 
Ruth’s Kryddersild and carpentry workshop
The Queen first visits Ruth’s Kryddersild, which produces three varieties of pickled herring. Afterward, there’s a visit to the carpentry workshop, where Lars Juhl Hansen tells about the restoration project. 

State prison - Dr. Dampe
The Queen visits the State prison and hears about the political prisoner Jacob Jacobsen Dampe, or Dr. Dampe, who was imprisoned 15 years after being convicted for high treason and violating the dignity of the ruling majesty.

Sailing tour
The Prince Consort, accompanied by Ulrik Lønkjær, sails on the service boat “The Elephant” around Ertholmene and moors at Frederiksø. 

The Community House, Månen
The Queen and The Prince Consort are offered samples of Ruth’s Kryddersild, after which Orla Johannsen speaks and presents the island’s gift to The Queen and The Prince Consort.
 
Farewell to Christiansø

At the dock on the Frederiksø side, The Queen and The Prince Consort bid farewell to Ertholmene and sail by barge to The Royal Yacht Dannebrog.
