The Crown Princess, as a member of the High Level Task Force for ICPD, pays a visit to Malaysia from 28-30 May to speak at the Women Deliver 3rd Global Conference, visit social projects and participate in business promotion activities.

Programme


Women Deliver Conference
08.20

The Crown Princess arrives at the Women Deliver Conference in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and takes part in the conference’s opening ceremony and the opening plenary sessions. The meetings focus on the reproductive health and rights of women and young girls.

Putraya Hospital
14.00

The Crown Princess visits Putraya Hospital and receives a presentation about the current diabetes situation among mothers and pregnant women in Malaysia. During the visit, The Crown Princess will speak with diabetic mothers and pregnant women who have developed pregnancy-related diabetes.  

Signing ceremony, Jom Mama Project
15.00

The Crown Princess presides over a signing ceremony between Novo Nordisk Malaysia and the Ministry of Health Malaysia. A memorandum of understanding will be signed for “Jom Mama” (“kom mama” in Malay), a research project on preventing and reducing the risk of chronic illnesses such as diabetes for young couples (before pregnancy). 

Opening of Sex and Society panel debate
18.30

The Crown Princess opens a Sex and Society panel debate about sexual and reproductive health and rights. The debate takes place in connection with the Women Deliver Conference in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The Crown Princess participates in Women Deliver’s reception for “Leaders in Global Development”  in One Petronas Tower.

The Crown Princess takes part in a plenary session about global development in the area of family planning. 

UN’s Refugee Agency (UNHCR) 
11.30

The Crown Princess visits the UN Refugee Agency’s office in Malaysia and gets a tour of the local registration centre.

Chin Centre for Handicrafts
12.35

The Crown Princess meets refugee women from Burma, who tell about their work at the centre and display their handicrafts.

Karen Organization School, Malaysia
13.30

The Crown Princess visits the school for Burmese refugee children. The Crown Princess receives a presentation of the school’s facilities, including the soup kitchen, and meets the children there.

Women’s Institute of Management
14.30

The Crown Princess visits the Women’s Institute of Management and is introduced to its work on curbing violence against women and on its HIV prevention programmes for marginalized women. During the visit, The Crown Princess meets representatives of the women who take part in the institute’s programme, including plantation workers, police officers, and single mothers. 

Business gala dinner
19.30 

The Crown Princess participates in a gala dinner with business representatives at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. The Crown Princess gives the opening speech and, in connection with the dinner, presents the Danish Export Association’s Honorary Diploma and HRH Prince Henrik’s Honours Medal. The honorary prize is given to a Danish company that is domiciled in a foreign country and that has contributed remarkable efforts to promote sales of Danish products and services abroad.
 


Women Deliver Conference
08.30

The Crown Princess participates as a speaker in the panel “The Development Agenda Through a Woman’s Lens”, which also includes UNDP Administrator and former New Zealand prime minister Helen Clark, former Finland president Tarja Halonen, and African Women’s Development Fund CEO Theo Sowa. The panel will shed light on how women’s rights and needs can be taken into account to a sufficient degree in the UN’s goals for global development.
