Programme for official visit in Canada

The Crown Prince Couple pay an official visit in Canada from 17-19 September 2014.

During the visit, the Crown Prince Couple will participate in a number of business and cultural activities that have the objective of strengthening the relations between Denmark and Canada and the partnerships between Danish and Canadian companies.

The programme will focus on trade in the areas of health, foodstuffs, architecture and green building, and design and fashion.

Wednesday, 17 September


Ottawa 

Joint programme
Visit at the National War Memorial of Canada

The Crown Prince Couple are welcomed by Minister of Veterans Affairs Julian Fantino. During the visit, the Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces performs the Danish and Canadian national anthems. The Crown Prince Couple take part in a wreath laying ceremony and sign the guestbook during the visit.

Sailing tour on the Ottawa River

The Crown Prince Couple sail from Ottawa in electrically powered water taxis and sail on the Ottawa River to the Canadian Museum of History, Quebec.

Visit at the Canadian Museum of History

The Crown Prince Couple are shown the museum, including the ceiling painting “Morning Star” and the symbols in the Grand Hall, and receive a presentation about the historical relations between Denmark and Canada.

Meeting with Canada’s Governor General

The Crown Prince Couple participate in a meeting with Canada’s Governor General and his wife in Rideau Hall, which has been the official residence and workplace of the governors general since 1867.

The Crown Prince Couple visit the local school Centennial Public School, which works with an anti-bullying programme. During the visit, the Crown Prince Couple talk with some of the school’s students.

Joint programme
Official opening of the Danish business promotional campaign in Canada

The Crown Prince Couple participate along with the Danish Trade and Development Cooperation minister in the opening of the business promotional campaign, during which HRH The Crown Prince will give a speech. A contract between Danish and Canadian companies will be signed afterwards.

Opening of “Taste Trade Show – Danish food and beverages”

The Crown Prince Couple take part in “TASTE Trade Show – Danish food and beverages”, where Danish companies get the opportunity to display their products to the Canadian foodstuffs and retail industries. Afterwards, the Crown Prince Couple view exhibitions by the participating companies.

Visit at “Danish Style – Sneak Peak 2015”

The Crown Princess visits the exhibition “Danish Style – Sneak Peak 2015”, which gives Danish companies the opportunity to show off the spring and summer collections for 2015 for the Canadian fashion industry. During the visit, The Crown Princess will be shown around the 26 Danish exhibitors.

Construction Seminar

The Crown Prince, together with the Danish Trade and Development Cooperation minister, visits a building construction seminar, where Danish companies present solutions aimed at greater productivity and efficiency in the building industry.

Reception at seminar “Danish Innovation for Canadian Healthcare”

The Crown Prince Couple, together with the Danish Trade and Development Cooperation minister, participate in the seminar, which deals with the challenges in Denmark and Canada in the health area, including increased life expectancy and chronic diseases. During the visit, the Crown Prince Couple greet the participating companies. The seminar takes place in MaRS Discovery District, which is a cooperation centre for companies, governments and the research sectors. MaRS Discovery District opened in 2005 and is one of the world’s largest innovation centres.

TannerMedico product launch

The Crown Prince Couple participate in a TannerMedico product launch, in which a Danish medicament for snoring will be introduced to the Canadian market.

Opening of seminar “Diabetes Care – 90 years and beyond”

The Crown Prince Couple are present at the opening of a seminar hosted by the company Novo Nordisk. The seminar is focused on diabetes and marks that it was 90 years ago that two Canadian researchers discovered insulin at the University of Toronto. Novo Nordisk has produced insulin since 1923. During the visit, the Crown Prince Couple will be shown The Insulin Wall, which illustrates insulin’s history in Denmark and Canada.

Visit at the Art Gallery of Ontario

The Crown Prince Couple visit the Art Gallery of Ontario and, among other things, are shown the “Lawren Harris Gallery”. The Canadian artist Lawren Harris was a part of the group of artists known as the Group of Seven, who devoted themselves to landscape motifs.

Opening of “A Story of Great Danish Icons”

The Crown Prince Couple are given a look at the showroom where Danish companies exhibit Danish design with the objective of accentuating the history and special characteristics of Danish design. 

Presentation of Danish Active House

The Crown Prince, together with the Danish Trade and Development Cooperation minister, attends the ceremony at which the Active House Alliance Canada Agreement is signed. The agreement is focused on Danish competencies in the area of sustainable building environments in Canada and the future cooperation between the two countries. 

Official dinner

On the occasion of the official visit, the Crown Prince Couple participate in a dinner at the Royal Ontario Museum.

Opening of “Danish Fashion and Food Week”

The Crown Prince Couple preside over the official opening of “Danish Fashion and Food Week”, where Danish companies present products and establish business connections with Hudson Bay Company, which is Canada’s largest chain of department stores.

Green Building and Sustainability seminar

The Crown Prince, together with the Danish Trade and Development Cooperation minister, is present at the seminar, where Danish competencies in sustainable building and housing solutions are introduced to political decision-makers in Canada.

Product launch of “Dråben”

The Crown Prince, together with the Danish Trade and Development Cooperation minister, is present for the product launch of the chair “Dråben”, which is now produced by the furniture manufacturer Fritz Hansen. The chair was originally designed by Arne Jacobsen for the Royal SAS Hotel in Copenhagen.

Seminar on the “Economic Burden of Mental Health”

The Crown Princess participates in the seminar, which deals with mental health and applies to Canadian business life, industry and government. During the visit, a declaration of intent will be signed.

Luncheon at The Rotary Club of Toronto

The Rotary Club of Toronto hosts a luncheon, where there will be a focus on the work of the Danish organization Specialisterne (The Specialists). Specialisterne works to make it possible for people with autism to get jobs. The organization works in 12 countries, of which Canada has just recently become a cooperating country.

VisitDenmark seminar

The Crown Prince Couple take part in a seminar held by VisitDenmark. The seminar deals with the promotion of tourism in Denmark. At the seminar, there will be a picture lottery, and the Crown Prince Couple will present a prize to the winner.

Visit at Pan American Games

During the visit, the Crown Prince Couple will attend a friendly match of seven-man football for players with cerebral palsy at Pan Am Fields, University of Toronto. The Pan American Games are the world’s third-largest international multi-sport competition and are held every four years. In 2015, Toronto will be the host city for the games.

Sports activities for wheelchair users

During the visit, the Crown Prince Couple are introduced to El-Hockey, which is a new sport in Canada. The Crown Prince Couple get the story behind the special chair used in the sport and afterwards start a match between two El-Hockey teams.

Opening of the exhibition “Contemporary Danish Architecture”

The Crown Prince Couple preside over the official opening of the exhibition, in which five Danish architects have explored various themes, which among other things include urban development.

Dinner

The Crown Prince Couple participate in a dinner with representatives from Danish subsidiaries and the network of Danish Honorary Consuls in Canada.
