Programme for the Crown Prince Couple's official visit to Chile

Their Royal Highnesses The Crown Prince and The Crown Princess pay an official visit to Chile from 10-16 March 2013.

The Crown Prince Couple will, among other things, visit Santiago, Valparaiso and northern Chile during the official visit. 

55 Danish businesses are accompanying The Crown Prince Couple to Chile. One of the main goals of the official visit is to strengthen the commercial ties between Denmark and Chile, which among other things focus on energy and environment, art and culture, farming and food products, and health care.
The official programme for the visit is shown in the right-hand column.

Santiago

The Quebrada de Macul nature park

The Crown Prince Couple visit the nature park Quebrada de Macul, which stands as an example of the landscape that once prevailed in the area outside Santiago. The Crown Prince Couple take part in a trek through the nature park. 


Dinner for the Danish delegation

The Danish ambassador in Chile, Lars Steen Nielsen, hosts a dinner for The Crown Prince Couple and the Danish delegation at the restaurant El Mesón Nerudiano.

Visit to Santiago’s mayor

The Crown Prince Couple pay a visit to Santiago’s mayor Carolina Tohá på Escuela Vicuña Mackenna and are presented with a key to the city. 

 

Private audience at the home of The President and the First Lady

The Crown Prince Couple have an audience with Chile’s President H.E. Sebastián Piñera and First Lady Cecilia Morel at the presidential palace, La Moneda.

Official luncheon by the foreign ministry

Chile’s foreign minister Alfredo Moreno holds an official luncheon for The Crown Prince Couple at Salon del Café. The business delegation participates.

Grundfos Industrial Park

The Crown Prince Couple inspect Grundfos Industrial Park in Colina and take part in the inauguration of Grundfos Chile’s new machine for quality control of centrifugal pumps. During the inauguration ceremony, The Crown Prince will activate the machine, which will then begin to assemble and fit up the pumps. Afterwards, there will be a speech by managing director Guillermo Wehmann and a reception.

Clínica Alemana

The Crown Prince and representatives of Danish companies from the health care sector visit the private hospital Clínica Alemana, which has been named the second-best hospital in Latin America. After presentation of the hospital and a tour of the children’s emergency ward, the chairman of the Confederation of Danish Industry will introduce the Danish areas of expertise within the health care sector.  

Valparaíso

Children’s library in Valparaíso

The Crown Princess and a Spanish class from a school visit the “Danish” children’s library in Valparaíso, which was established 10 years ago by the Danish school teacher Anne Hansen. On the occasion of the launching of three new Danish children’s books in Spanish, the library’s leader Anne Hansen will read from one of the books and The Crown Princess will answer questions from the school children. The Crown Princess hands out copies of the book to the school children and, after a guided tour of the library, is introduced to a children’s container project. 

Santiago

Isla Negra - Pablo Neruda’s home

The Crown Prince Couple pay a visit to the poet Pablo Neruda’s home and are introduced to a Danish-Chilean lyrical poetry project in which five Danish and five Chilean poets have worked together in Neruda’s home on translation and  publication of a Danish-Chilean poetry anthology. In connection with the visit, The Crown Prince Couple will see the poet’s gravesite. 

Maersk Container Industry

The Crown Prince Couple inspect Maersk Container Industry in San Antonio, where a factory for producing refrigerated containers is under construction. The factory, which is the largest Danish investment in Chile to date and the first of its kind in South America, will serve the market throughout the whole continent, where there is a big demand for refrigerated transport of food products. After inspecting a refrigerated container, The Crown Prince Couple will be shown the area where the factory is being built.

 

Asger Jorn exhibition

The Crown Prince Couple participate in the opening of an Asger Jorn exhibition at Museo de Bella Artes, Chile’s national museum. The Crown Prince and The Crown Princess will be introduced to the exhibition, which consists of around 100 works by the Danish visual artist.

Culture dinner at Museo de Bella Artes

The Crown Prince Couple participate in a culture dinner hosted by the Danish embassy in Chile. The aim of the dinner is to develop and promote dialogue and contact between the Danish and Chilean visual arts scenes.

Opening of Business Seminar

The Crown Prince presides over the opening of a Business Seminar at the Hotel Grand Hyatt with the participation of Danish and Chilean companies involved in food products and agroindustry, clean-tech, health care, aquaculture and fisheries, mining, and the maritime sector.

Opening of “Human Rights Education = Human Rights in Education?”

The Crown Princess attends the opening of the Danish-Chilean conference about education in human rights, “Human Rights Education = Human Rights in Education?”, at the Museum of Memory and Human Rights. New international educational material by The Danish Institute for Human Rights is being launched in connection with the conference. After the opening, The Crown Princess will be introduced to the museum’s permanent exhibition, which bears witness to the human rights violations that occurred during the military dictatorship during the period 1973-90.   

Luncheon for the business delegation

The Crown Prince Couple take part in a luncheon with the business delegation at the Hotel Grand Hyatt. At the luncheon, The Crown Prince presents HRH Prince Henrik’s Honours Medal to two Danish companies.

 

Visit to DIBAM – Chile’s cultural agency

The Crown Prince Couple pay a visit to Chile’s cultural agency - Dirección de Bibliotecas Archivos y Museos (DIBAM) – to witness the signing of a Danish-Chilean agreement on the exchange of museum curators. The agreement is signed from the Chilean side by DIBAM director Magdalena Krebs and from the Danish side by Anne Mette Rahbæk Warburg of the Danish Agency for Culture. 

Architecture symposium

The Crown Prince Couple attend a symposium at DIBAM for Danish and Chilean architects, who discuss cities in transformation. The symposium is intended to be a starting point for future co-operation between Denmark and Chile in the field of architecture.

Official dinner

The Crown Prince Couple participate in the official dinner at Club de la Unión, which is held for invited Danish and Chilean guests on the occasion of the official visit to Chile. Nikolaj Koppel from Denmark and Chilean Carolina Ullrich are the masters of ceremonies for the dinner, where, among others, street dancer Steen Koerner and The Royal Life Guard’s Brass Ensemble will entertain.

The Crown Prince Couple visit F.L. Smidth and preside over the official opening of the company’s new “Supercentre” for spare parts and customer service in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile.

European Southern Observatory (ESO), Paranal

The Crown Prince Couple pay a visit to the European Southern Observatory, Paranal, in Chile’s desert area, 130 km south of  Antafogasta and 2635 metres above sea level. During the visit, The Crown Prince Couple will be shown the centre’s telescopes. At sundown, The Crown Prince Couple will be shown the mapping telescopes and, together with others including Danish astronomers, will see and explore the heavens. 
Since 1966, Denmark has been part of the European collaboration ESO and annually supports the organization with research funds.

Opening of solar heating facility, the Gaby Mine

The Crown Prince Couple preside over the opening of the Gaby Mine’s new solar heating plant, which is under construction. The solar heating plant is the world’s largest and is being produced by the Danish firm Sunmark in co-operation with Chilean partner Ellaima.

The official visit concludes.
