HM The Queen and HRH Princess Marie participate in the marking of the Danish Emergency Management Agency’s 75th anniversary on Wednesday, 1 May.

The anniversary event takes place at the Danish Emergency Management Agency in Birkerød, where there will be a reception and speeches by DEMA director Henning Thiesen and defence minister Nick Hækkerup. Afterwards, there will be a guided tour of the agency.

During the visit, The Queen and Princess Marie will be shown the Danish Emergency Management Agency’s equipment for handling catastrophes, including a rescue crane, nuclear testing equipment, water treatment systems, pumping equipment and a mobile hospital.

The foundation stone of the Danish Emergency Management Agency was laid in 1938 with the creation of a civil air defence, which was intended to ensure the protection of the population in the event of war. In 1993, the Civil Defence Agency was combined with the Governmental Fire Inspection Agency and became the Danish Emergency Management Agency. Among other things, the agency now has the task of providing help and support in the event of serious accidents and disasters in Denmark and abroad.
In connection with the anniversary, more events will be held at the Danish Emergency Management Agency’s divisions in Thisted, Herning, Haderslev, Tinglev, Næstved, Hedehusene and Allinge. These events will take place on Saturday, 4 May, and will include, among other things, the display of equipment for disaster preparedness.
