VISIT TO HIV WARD

HRH Princess Marie visits Aarhus University Hospital’s HIV ward on 1 March to meet three infected young people from The Youth Group, which The AIDS Foundation supports, and to be introduced to two research projects.

Princess Marie, who since 2011 has been patron of The AIDS Foundation, will be introduced to The Youth Group, which is a support group for young people with HIV, during the visit to Ward Q.  The Princess will also be introduced to research projects on an HIV vaccine and an HIV cure, both of which have received grants from The AIDS Foundation.
The visit begins at 12.00 in the HIV out-patients’ clinic, where the Princess follows an HIV patient there for a control check-up. Afterwards, there are visits to a bed ward and to the research basement, where HIV studies are carried out. Afterwards, The Youth Group is presented by three infected youths, who tell about their lives with the disease and the challenges they face every day. The Youth Group offers support to HIV-infected people between the ages of 15 and 25 in Denmark.
Since 2004, The AIDS Foundation has supported The Youth Group through the campaign Humour Against AIDS, which takes place the first week of April. Money from Humour Against AIDS has, among other things, meant that a group of HIV-infected youths can, for a trial period, avoid control visits to the hospital and instead receive the important check-ups at, for example, a vacation house.
Infectious Diseases Ward Q is located at Aarhus University Hospital, Brendstrupgårdsvej 100, Aarhus N.
