HRH The Crown Princess visits Texas the days of 10-13 March 2019 to participate in a Danish promotional campaign.

The Crown Princess visits the two American cities Houston and Austin in the state of Texas the days of 10-13 March 2019. There, The Crown Princess will first take part in a large Danish promotional campaign for selected cultural and creative industries at the festival “South by Southwest” in Austin. Afterwards, The Crown Princess travels to Houston, where Danish companies will display solutions in the areas of green energy as well as medicines and medical equipment. Minister for Culture Mette Bock accompanies The Crown Princess.

Monday, 11 March 

Breakfast arrangement “Women in Leadership & How to Inspire the Next Generation of Women Leaders"

The Crown Princess takes part in the breakfast arrangement, “Women in Leadership & How to Inspire the Next Generation of Women Leaders”. The goal is to discuss the potential that  female leaders have to be role models who can encourage and inspire women and girls on a global level. At the arrangement, EU commissioner Margrethe Vestager, Minister of Culture Mette Bock and a number of other distinguished women participate. The arrangement takes place at the exhibition space House of Scandinavia, which is a pop-up lounge that brings together activities based on Nordic sustainable solutions.

The Crown Princess visits the “South by Southwest” festival and tours around to see the Danish contributions and stands. Among other things, The Crown Princess will be shown a Danish virtual reality installation and art installations created by Danish artists and will meet the curator of House of Scandinavia.

The Crown Princess attends the food arrangement “Danish Gastronomy - A Michelin experience” led by the Danish chef Kamilla Seidler. The arrangement focuses on Danish gastronomy, and the invited guests are served dishes in which sustainability in the selection of the ingredients is the focal point.

Meeting with the Governor of Texas

The Crown Princess participates in a meeting with the Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott. The meeting takes place at the Governor’s residence. 

Tow with the Flow - performance about fashion and sustainability

The Crown Princess attends the presentation of the performance piece “Tow with the Flow” and meets with the artist afterwards. The work focuses on overconsumption and sustainability in clothes production and fashion and consists of 17 specially made costumes prepared by the Scandinavian design studio Sur Le Chemin. 

Participation in “JaJaJa x Roskilde Festival: Meet the Nordics"

The Crown Princess takes part in the “Nordic Music Showcase”. At the event, the Roskilde Festival presents five Nordic bands the festival believes have a big change for a musical breakthrough in the USA. The event takes place at House of Scandinavia, and The Crown Princess delivers an opening speech.

The Crown Princess participates in a concluding reception at House of Scandinavia. The reception includes cultural elements from Danish cultural institutions taking part at the South by Southwest festival.

The Crown Princess meet with Houston’s mayor, Sylvester Turner, at Houston City Hall.

Launch of collaboration between Denmark and Houston

The Crown Princess takes part in the launch of a collaborative effort between Denmark and Houston focusing on urban development and climate adaption. The goal of the collaboration is to exchange visions, ideas and technologies to better withstand climate change.

Gala dinner at Houston Museum of Fine Arts

The Crown Princess participates in a gala dinner. The dinner takes place at Houston Museum of Fine Arts.

Launch of healthcare collaboration between Denmark and Texas

The Crown Princess takes part in the launch of a healthcare collaboration between Denmark and Texas at Texas Medical Center, which is the world’s largest hospital complex with more than 100,000 employees and several world-leading treatment programs. At the event, there will be presentations about opportunities for cooperation as well as joint strategic interests in the areas of digital health, biotech and hospital logistics.  

“Dansk Energy Innovation” at the energy conference CERAWeek

The Crown Princess participates in the energy conference CERAWeek, where Denmark’s leading energy companies and researchers will, among other things, discuss the energy solutions of the future. Since its start in 1983, CERAWeek has developed into one of the leading energy conferences, and more than 4,000 leaders and political decision makers take part.

Opening of the exhibition “Statecraft” at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft

The Crown Princess is present at the opening of the exhibition “Statecraft: Selections from the Jewelry Collection of the Danish Arts Foundation” at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. “Statecraft” represents a specially curated sampling of the Danish Arts Foundation’s jewelry collection and is supported by the Danish Arts Foundation. The exhibition is the first of several collaborations between the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft and Denmark. The exhibition displays the development of Danish jewelry art from the middle of the 20th century until now.
