Graasten Ringriderforening’s annual procession begins at Graasten Riding School and concludes at Ringriderpladsen, where there is a traditional tilting at the ring competition. On the way, the cavalcade, which consists of approx. 300 horse riders and more than 100 children on bicycles, goes past Graasten Palace, where the Crown Prince Family receives and greets the many participants.

Ever since King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid received Graasten Palace as a wedding present in 1935, the palace has served as a summer residence for the royal family. For just as long, it has been a tradition for Graasten Ringriderforening to pass by Graasten Palace and greet the royal family in conjunction with the annual cavalcade.

The Graasten tilting competition takes place every year on the third weekend in July and is a celebration that extends over several days. Tilting at the ring is a tradition that originates from the medieval jousting tournaments held by knights. Tilting at the ring takes place on horseback; the rider, with his or her lance, must spear a metal ring suspended between two stanchions. The many participants compete to get the most rings and thus win the competition.
