The gala banquet takes place in the Great Hall, which is the largest of The Royal Reception Rooms at Christiansborg Palace. Through the ages, the Great Hall has been the setting of many official events such as state dinners and gala banquets.

A banquet table often has decorations. At this evening’s gala banquet, the decorations consist of bronze candelabra and silver candlesticks. On two of the tables there will be golden lions, which come from King Frederik VI’s dessert service. The golden lions will be decorated with flower arrangements, and the bronze candelabra will be decorated with garlands of flowers.

All of the gala banquet’s round tables are decorated with colorful flower arrangements consisting of pink peonies, babies’-breath, larkspurs and love-in-a-mist, among others.

During the banquet, the guests will have a four-course dinner. The first course is served on silver plates from the 1750s, and the main course is served on the "Saxon Flower" service. The entrée and the dessert will both be served on crown plates with coral edges. The guests will drink from Holmegaard glassware, which was specially designed in connection with The Queen and Prince Henrik’s silver wedding anniversary on 10 June 1992.
