The Crown Prince Couple pay official visit to South Korea

In South Korea’s capital, Seoul, the days of 20-22 May 2019, the Crown Prince Couple will represent Denmark in a large Danish business promotional campaign, which will give visibility to Danish technology and high-quality products. In addition, Their Royal Highnesses will take part in celebrating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Denmark and South Korea during the visit.

When the Crown Prince Couple visit the megacity Seoul in May, it will be together with a large Danish business delegation that wants to seek out new market opportunities and promote advanced Danish technologies and products in South Korea. Together with the Danish companies, Their Royal Highnesses will participate in a business conference and several seminars and company visits in which sustainable energy and urban development, health and welfare technology, as well as food products and lifestyle will be in focus. The goal of the business promotional campaign is to strengthen the ties and the strategic partnership between the two countries and give visibility to the Danish companies’ cooperation opportunities and standing in South Korea.

The visit will also have cultural aspect, as this year marks 60 years since Denmark and South Korea established diplomatic relations. In Seoul, the Crown Prince Couple will therefore take part in a number of cultural arrangements that will help to promote the cultural ties between the two countries.

The Crown Princess is the patron of the Danish-South Korean Year of Culture 2019, and, in this connection, Her Royal Highness was present when the Year of Culture was officially launched at Kunsthal Aarhus in January. The Year of Culture is a part of the Asiatic cultural effort the International Culture Panel is focusing on from 2017 until 2020. In South Korea, the effort is particularly concentrated on music, visual arts, handicrafts and design, dramatic arts, film, literature and museum collaborations.

This will be the Crown Prince Couple’s second time on a cultural and business promotional campaign in South Korea. The previous time was in 2012, when The Crown Prince and The Crown Princess, among other things, took part in opening the Danish contribution at the worldwide exhibition EXPO 2012.

The final program and the media program for the visit will be announced later. Information concerning media travel will be sent out separately at a later time by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Office of Public Diplomacy, Communication and Press.
