Gold Coach
The coach tour on 14 January will make use of the Gold Coach, also called ‘’King Christian VIII’s coach’’, which is covered with 24-carat gold leaf. It was built by coach-maker Henry Fife in 1840.During HM The Queen’s reign, the Gold Coach has been used for nearly every New Year levee. The coach was also used during The Queen’s 25th jubilee in 1997 and for many official visits. The Gold Coach is unique in European coach-building because of its very simple and elegant structure. On 14 January, the coach will be hitched to six horses, the so-called Kladrubers, and accompanied by two outriders.
The Hussar Guard Regiment’s Horse Squadron is a special military unit with the primary task of providing mounted escorts and serving the regent in connection with various official events such as, for example, state visits, New Year levees, and receiving foreign ambassadors. The squadron’s history, traditions and uniforms go back to the Hussar Regiment that King Frederik V created in 1762. In its current form, the Horse Squadron has 70-75 horses and consists of two divisions with around 40 servicemen each. Furthermore, there are permanent officers, non-commissioned officers, enlisted privates and civilian craftsmen (saddle makers, smith, veterinarian and music teacher) – in all, around 107 persons.Click on the link below to see the coach route and the site map with the activities along the coach route on 14 January.
