Princess Marie opens charity shop

H.K.H. Prinsesse Marie får fremvist butikkens børnetøj-afdeling.

On Monday, 25 June, HRH Princess Marie as patron of DanChurchAid visited the organisation’s charity shop in Tønder.

The Princess began her visit by greeting the shop’s 31 volunteer helpers, many of whom have been there all the years DanChurchAid has had a shop in Tønder. Thereafter, The Princess toured the new premises.

To conclude the visit, The Princess presided over the official 2 p.m. opening by cutting a symbolic red ribbon.

It has been 40 years since DanChurchAid opened Denmark’s first charity shop, and today the organisation has 123 such shops, which are run by more than 3400 volunteers.

The charity shop in Tønder was opened in 1982 and thus celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

Princess Marie has been patron of DanChurchAid since 2011 and stated upon the appointment: “I have great respect for DanChurchAid’s work in helping some of the world’s poorest people to a better life. It is my hope that I can help tell that it is worth helping both in daily life and when catastrophes occur.”
