Groundbreaking ceremony for “Mary’s Australian Garden”
On 2 February 2022, Copenhagen Zoo marks the 50th birthday of HRH The Crown Princess with a visit among the Zoo’s animals, birthday songs and, not least, groundbreaking for the new facility, “Mary’s Australian Garden”, which is being named after The Crown Princess.
Thanks to donations from the Augustinus Foundation and the Knud Højgaard Foundation, HRH The Crown Princess can turn the first spade of sod for the third and final part of the Zoo’s new facility for Australian animals: “Mary’s Australian Garden”.
The groundbreaking for “Mary’s Australian Garden” is, at the same time, the first step in the execution of the Zoo’s master plan, which will mean significant changes in the animals’ facilities in the coming years.
The facility will provide more space and well-being for current and new species such as the laughing kookaburra, the rock wallaby and the cockatoo. In addition to that, the plan is to raise the standard for how the animals are kept in the future and for the animal experiences by drawing the visitors even closer to the animals and the daily work of the zookeepers.
The Crown Princess is the patron of the Copenhagen Zoo.
