Programme for state visit from Belgium

His Majesty King Philippe and Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of the Belgians come for a state visit to Denmark from 28-30 March 2017.

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde will be accompanied by seven ministers and a business delegation of 37 Belgian companies.

Among other things, the state visit has the objective of strengthening the already strong bonds between Denmark and Belgium. The close connection between the two royal families, which descend from the House of Glücksborg, can be dated back to 1863. Thus, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of the Belgians participated in the celebration of HM The Queen’s 75th birthday in 2015, and HM Queen Mathilde is also godmother of HRH Princess Isabella. The programme for the state visit will focus on, among other things, sustainable development, renewable energy, health, transport logistics and smart-city solutions.

Tuesday, 28 March

Arrival at Copenhagen International Airport

TM King Philippe and Queen Mathilde arrive at the Vilhelm Lauritzen Terminal at Copenhagen International Airport, where HM The Queen, the Crown Prince Couple and TRH Prince Joachim and Princess Marie will be present.

Official reception at Amalienborg

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, together with The Queen and The Crown Prince Couple, ride by coach to Christian VII’s Palace, Amalienborg, accompanied by the Guard Hussar Regiment’s mounted squadron. Afterwards, there will be official photographing of the King Philippe and Queen Mathilde and the Danish royal family.

Meeting with the Prime Minister

The Crown Prince Couple, along with King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, go on a sailing tour in Copenhagen Harbour. The sailing tour will focus on renewable energy, among other things.

State Banquet at Christiansborg Palace

The Queen hosts a State Banquet in honour of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde. At the gala dinner, The Crown Prince Couple, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, HH Princess Elisabeth, the government, the Belgian delegation, selected companies and others will take part.

At the dinner, there will be remarks by The Queen and King Philippe.

Wednesday, 29 March

Visit at Copenhagen City Hall

The Crown Prince and King Philippe together visit Copenhagen City Hall. Here, Lord Mayor Frank Jensen will extend greetings, then The Crown Prince and King Philippe will sign the guest book and afterwards attend three different presentations about renewable energy and smart-city solutions, among other things.

Meeting with The Mary Foundation

The Crown Princess and Queen Mathilde participate in a meeting with The Mary Foundation at Frederik VIII's Palace, Amalienborg.

Visit at the Confederation of Danish Industry

The Crown Prince and King Philippe take part in a Danish-Belgian seminar at the Confederation of Danish Industry focusing on, among other things, transportation, health and sustainability. Afterwards, The Crown Prince and King Philippe visit State of Green.

Visit at Amager Fælled Skole

The Crown Princess and Queen Mathilde together visit Amager Fælled Skole, which works with The Mary Foundation’s anti-bullying project “Free of Bullying”. During the visit, there will be a presentation of the project, and afterwards The Crown Princess and Queen Mathilde will visit a classroom and greet students.

Visit at State of Green

In extension of the seminar at the Confederation of Danish Industry, The Crown Prince and King Phillipe visit State of Green. State of Green is a public-private partnership between the Danish government, relevant companies and actors in the energy sector. State of Green works to make Denmark a pioneering country in the area of green growth and to make Denmark independent of fossil fuels by 2025.

The Crown Princess and Queen Mathilde together visit the UN City in Copenhagen. Here, The Crown Princess and Queen Mathilde will meet Belgian representatives from the UN City’s offices and also take part in a tour and a meeting.

High-Level luncheon

The Crown Prince and King Philippe participate in a High-Level luncheon with representatives from Danish and Belgian companies, among others. The luncheon focuses on themes such as renewable energy, smart cities, sea transport and sustainability.

Academic luncheon

The Crown Princess hosts a working luncheon, with Queen Mathilde participating, at Frederik VIII’s Palace, Amalienborg. The luncheon focuses on the UN’s 17 global goals, and among the participants are academics from the Technical University of Denmark as well as UN representatives. 

Visit at BaneDanmark

The Crown Prince and King Phillipe visit BaneDanmark, where they will get a look at new train technology, among other things.

Visit at the Cinematheque

The Crown Prince Couple and King Philippe and Queen Mathilde visit the Cinematheque and take part in an event focused on Belgian culture. The Crown Prince Couple and King Philippe and Queen Mathilde will be shown the film “Experience Belgium” and, after that, participate in the opening of a tourism trade fair.

Reciprocal event at The Black Diamond

To conclude the state visit, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde hold a reciprocal event at The Black Diamond with participation by The Queen, The Crown Prince Couple, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, and Princess Elisabeth. First there will be a concert, after which King Philippe and Queen Mathilde and the Danish royal family will meet some of the artists. Following this, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde will host a dinner.

The Queen bids farewell to King Philippe and Queen Mathilde at Christian VII's Palace, Amalienborg, where they will write in the guest book and sign a window pane.
