Research and knowledge centers change names

In connection with the succession of the throne, the Crown Prince Frederik Center for Public Leadership at Aarhus University and the Crown Princess Mary Center at the University of Copenhagen will change names.

This means that the Crown Prince Frederik Center for Public Leadership is changing its name to the King Frederik Center for Public Leadership, while the Crown Princess Mary Center will henceforth be named the Queen Mary Center.

The King Frederik Center for Public Leadership is an international research center physically located in the Department of Political Science at Aarhus University, from which HM The King earned a Master’s degree in political science in 1995. The center, which provides interdisciplinary and research-based knowledge about public leadership, opened in May 2018 on the occasion of The King’s 50th birthday.

The Queen Mary Center, which opened in February 2022 in connection with HM The Queen’s 50th birthday, is a multidisciplinary knowledge center which finds new solutions for existing societal problems through partnerships between researchers and practitioners. The center was set up by the Humanities, Social Sciences, Theology and Law faculties of the University of Copenhagen.

The King and The Queen will continue to play an active role in the strategy and development of the centers. The King is a member of the “Governance Committee” of the King Frederik Center for Public Leadership, while The Queen is attached to the “Advisory Committee” of the Queen Mary Center. Both committees have an advisory function in relation to how the tasks of the centers are carried out.
