HM The Queen, together with the Crown Prince Couple, received 21 August 2023 HE The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and First Lady Olena Volodymyrivna Zelenska during the presidential couple’s first official visit in Denmark.

The official reception took place in the Great Hall at Christiansborg Palace.

The visit emphasises the Danish support and backing for the Ukrainian defence, with focus both on the specific military support and the long-term support for the country and its people.

On several occasions, The Queen has expressed her strong support for the Ukrainian people, and, following the official reception and photographing, Her Majesty had the opportunity to present the President a special gift: a painting titled 'The Tree of Life'. Painted by Her Majesty herself in the 1990s at Marselisborg Palace.

The Ukrainian presidential couple also presented The Queen with a painting.

After the presentation of the gift and the traditional signing of the guest book, The Queen hosted an official luncheon in the Reference Library.

In addition to the President and First Lady and the Crown Prince Couple, the luncheon was also attended by the Prime Minister, the Minister of Defence and the Ukrainian ambassador to Denmark.

HRH The Crown Princess and Ukrainian First Lady Olena Volodymyrivna Zelenska took part in a Danish-Ukrainian evening church service at Haderslev Cathedral..

The Danish-Ukrainian evening service was held in connection with the official visit of the Ukrainian President and First Lady in Denmark.

The church service was conducted both in Danish and Ukrainian.

Her Royal Highness is the host of the programme for Ukraine’s First Lady, Olena Volodymyrivna Zelenska.

Ukrainians living in the area were invited together with the Danish congregation to a church service and evensong to demonstrate the close ties between the two countries and their populations.

After the church service, The Crown Princess and the Ukrainian First Lady had the opportunity to meet Ukrainians living in the area, who shared their personal accounts about the flight from Ukraine and the encounter with Denmark.
