The tradition of offering City Hall pancakes during receptions of royalty on state visits goes back to 1928, when the City Hall had a state visit by HM King Albert of Belgium. In connection with the visit, there was need for a dessert that could be served to The King. The dessert turned out to be a pancake with cream and nuts on top. It was such a great success that it has become a tradition to serve at the City Hall ever since.
