Today, the annual report for The Royal House of Denmark’s activities in 2023 is released.

The annual report recounts an exceptional year with a number of historical impacts, not least Her Majesty Queen Margrethe’s announcement of her abdication and the succession of the throne.

In July, The Royal House of Denmark could celebrate that Queen Margrethe had become the longest-serving reigning monarch in Danish history. Three months later, the 18th birthday of His Royal Highness The Crown Prince was celebrated at a gala dinner at Christiansborg Palace with the participation of more than 200 young people from across Denmark as well as from the Faroe Islands and Greenland. The year was also marked by a large number of other events, trips and visits, including visits by the Norwegian and Spanish royal couples as well as the then Crown Prince Couple’s trip to India to lead a large Danish business delegation. 

The Royal House of Denmark’s annual report 2023 consists of – in addition to the narrative – the annual accounts for The Royal Civil List, which includes the Parliamentary allowance for Queen Margrethe, and for the then Crown Prince Couple’s annuity.

The Civil List’s accounts indicate a consumption of savings in the form of a deficit of just over DKK 1 million. The result must be viewed against the background of a year with many activities and a continued high level of prices, but in which, at the same time, there has been a focus on adjusting the finances following a sizeable deficit in 2022. Balance in the finances through prioritisation and effective solutions is a central objective for The Royal House of Denmark. This goal will be reinforced particularly in the coming years, when a continued high level of activity is expected, and when investments in the modernisation of The Royal House of Denmark in several areas are planned.
