In The Danish Royal Property Trust, you can find various types of jewellery with painted portraits of royals. Pieces of jewellery such as these were very normal in the 1700s and 1800s, when so-called ‘sentiment jewellery’ – or memorial jewellery – with a painted portrait of a loved one or deceased person, possibly together with a lock of hair, was a romantic memento of the person portrayed.
