The Emerald Set

The Emerald Set is a part of the crown jewels.

The Emerald Set in French Empire style with bows and curved shapes is decorated with green emeralds and brilliant-cut diamonds and consists of a tiara, necklace, brooch and earrings. The current form of the set dates back to around 1840, but some of the emeralds originally formed part of a necklace that Christian VI presented as a maternity gift to Queen Sophie Magdalene upon the birth of their son, Frederik (V) in 1723. The Emerald Set is the only one of the crown jewel garnitures that includes a tiara.

The emerald jewellery only became a part of the crown jewels at the end of the 1700s under Queen Juliane Marie and not under Queen Sophie Magdalene, like the other garnitures.
