Programme for the state visit from the Netherlands

The Queen and The Prince Consort welcome TM King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima to Denmark from 17-19 March 2015.

The forthcoming state visit has the objective of strengthening the relations and the common interests between Denmark and The Netherlands. The programme opens the opportunity for the two countries to exchange experiences in the area of green innovative growth and set focus on the medical and educational sectors. Denmark’s competence in these areas will be presented to the official delegation and the approximately 40 companies in the business delegation accompanying The King and The Queen of The Netherlands. 

After the official reception on 17 March in the Vilhelm Lauritzen terminal, The King and the Queen will arrive at Fredensborg Palace. HM The Queen and HRH The Prince Consort will, in the evening, be the hosts at a state dinner at Christiansborg Palace. 

On the second day of the state visit, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima will be accompanied by the Crown Prince Couple on a visit to Samsø, which today is 100 percent self-sufficient with sustainable energy.

Programme
Tuesday, 17 March

Upon arrival in Danish airspace, the airplane carrying TM King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima will be escorted by two F-16 jets from the Danish air force.

Welcoming ceremony at the airport, Vilhelm Lauritzen Terminal
10.00

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima arrive at Copenhagen International Airport, Vilhelm Lauritzen Terminal. The King and The Queen are received by The Queen and The Prince Consort, the Crown Prince Couple, TRH Prince Joachim and Princess Marie as well as HRH Princess Benedikte and HH Prince Richard. 

The Royal Life Guard’s Guard of Honour will be inspected.

Official welcome at Fredensborg Palace
11.10

Meeting with the Netherlands business delegation in the Prime Minister’s Office
12.40

The King and The Queen are received by prime minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Christiansborg, and they hold a meeting with the Netherlands business delegation. Afterwards, The King and The Queen and the prime minister attend a signing ceremony. 

Luncheon in the Prime Minister’s Office
13.00

The prime minister hosts a luncheon for The King and The Queen of The Netherlands. During the luncheon, the prime minister and King Willem-Alexander will give speeches. 

Visit at Aalborg University, Copenhagen 
14.45

The King and The Queen participate together with the Crown Prince Couple in the seminar “Sustainability of the Quality of Our Societies” at Aalborg University Copenhagen, where there will be round-table discussions afterwards.

The King and The Queen take part in a reception with Netherlands citizens residing in Denmark at the Glyptotek. 

State Banquet at Christiansborg Slot
20.00

The Queen and The Prince Consort are the hosts at a state dinner at Christiansborg Palace in honour of The King and The Queen of The Netherlands. Participants from the Danish royal family include the Crown Prince Couple, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, Princess Benedikte, HH Prince Richard and HH Princess Elisabeth.
There will be official speeches by The Queen of Denmark and The King of The Netherlands.

Wednesday, 18 March

Samsø

Welcome by the mayor
10.25

The King and The Queen of The Netherlands, together with the Crown Prince Couple, visit Samsø, where they are received by the island’s mayor. The mayor will give a speech at the greeting ceremony. 

Visit at Samsø Efterskole
10.50

During the visit at Samsø Efterskole, The King and The Queen and the Crown Prince Couple will get a tour and be introduced to the continuation school’s green development and self-sufficiency. There will be an opportunity to greet the school’s students, who, among other things, will present physics projects and engage in various sports, including diving and golf. In conclusion, one of the school’s students will show the school’s flight simulator and tell about the school’s activities.

Visit at Ballen Brundby district heating plant
11.20

The King and The Queen and the Crown Prince Couple visit Ballen Brundby district heating plant, where a straw-fired burner supplies 232 users on Samsø with sustainable energy. 
During the visit, King Willem-Alexander will start the firing process by activating the starter button.

Visit at the Energy Academy
11.40 

At the Energy Academy, The King and The Queen and the Crown Prince Couple will be received by the academy’s staff. Afterwards, The King and The Queen and the Crown Prince Couple take part in a round-table discussion about sustainability and climate change together with representatives from Netherlands ministries and business life as well as local people from Samsø who deal with energy.

Luncheon 
12.15

The King and The Queen and the Crown Prince Couple participate together with, among others, Netherlands companies in a luncheon at the restaurant Walthers Hvile with food made from local fresh ingredients.

Visit at Bispebjerg Hospital
16.00

The King and The Queen visit Bispebjerg Hospital, where they will hear a narrative about the principles behind "supersygehuse". Lego bricks and molecular models that have been used in projects in connection with the new hospitals will be handed over. Afterwards, The King and The Queen will talk with representatives from Bispebjerg Hospital and representatives from Netherlands companies that deal with solutions for, among other things, inventory and IT for hospitals.

Netherlands reciprocal event at The Black Diamond
19.00

The King and The Queen hold a reciprocal event at The Black Diamond in honour of The Queen and The Prince Consort. Participants from the Danish royal family include The Queen and The Prince Consort, the Crown Prince Couple, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, Princess Benedikte, Prince Richard and Princess Elisabeth.
