14 January 2024 was a landmark date in the history of Denmark. Her Majesty Queen Margrethe abdicated, and, with the royal motto “Forbundne, forpligtet, for Kongeriget Danmark”, His Majesty King Frederik the 10th assumed the throne. A new chapter in the Danish monarchy’s 1000-year history began.

The Royal House of Denmark’s annual report 2024 gives an account of Their Majesties The King’s and The Queen’s first year as a Royal Couple, in which the objective was to ensure a visible and accessible Royal House.

In 2024, The King and Queen took part in a wide range of events throughout the country focusing on communities, green transition, delight in nature and cultural heritage.

The King and Queen carried on the tradition of summer cruises and, in this connection, visited Bornholm, Ærø, Assens and Vejle.

The King and Queen also participated in seven trips abroad and represented Denmark in the fields of business, culture, sport, green transition, security and development.

State visits to Sweden and Norway emphasised the close ties between the Nordic monarchies, while a 2000 km journey in Greenland focused on the history of the Realm. The King and Queen also hosted state visits from Iceland and Egypt.

The financial result for the first year following The King’s accession to the throne is satisfactory and reflects the high level of activity as well as the one-off expenditures and investments that have been necessary to establish The Royal House of Denmark’s new organisation. The operations have been in balance, and DKK 6 million of the extraordinary one-off subsidy of DKK 28.7 million have been used so far in accordance with the purpose of, among other things, covering expenses related to the succession of the throne.

In the coming years, the level of activity is expected to continue to be high, with additional investments in, for example, IT security and sustainable solutions.

In connection with The Royal House of Denmark’s annual report, the list of gifts received during the second half of 2024 is published.
