Upon HM The King’s accession to the throne on 14 January 2024, there were 104 designations as “Holder of the Royal Warrant”, “By Appointment to The Royal Danish Court” and other special titles for Danish companies and five for foreign companies.
In connection with the succession of the throne the designations ceased, and The Royal House of Denmark announced that the designations could be used until the expiration of the five-year period of validity and at least until 14 January 2025.
On 13 November 2024, The Royal House of Denmark announced that the system of appointing holders of the Royal Warrant is coming to an end, and that the current designations will be phased out.
To give the affected companies time to adapt to the changes, all existing holders of the Royal Warrant will be able to use the designation until 31 December 2029. Thereafter, it will not be possible to use the designation.

Historically, the Royal Warrant holder designation was given to companies or tradesmen that continually supplied goods or services to the Court. Since those times, the designation has, to a greater extent, been bestowed as a special recognition of a company based on, among other things, criteria concerning social responsibility and propriety.
Holders of the Royal Warrant were appointed in connection with Her Majesty Queen Margrethe’s birthday on 16 April.
Previously, a distinction was made between the designations “By Appointment to The Royal Danish Court” and “Holder of the Royal Warrant”, as the first designation was given to larger companies when The Royal House of Denmark typically purchased the company’s products through distributors, while the second designation was given to smaller businesses that had direct commercial relations with The Royal House of Denmark.
In addition, historically, a number of special designations have been bestowed, such as, for example, “Royal Court Jeweller” and “Royal Court Apothecary”.
Since 2008, The Royal House of Denmark has only bestowed the designation “Holder of the Royal Warrant”. There are 18 companies that have chosen to retain the designation “By Appointment to the Royal Danish Court”.
The designation “Holder of the Royal Warrant” has existed for more than 100 years.
