I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former President Shimon Peres. He will be remembered as a founding father of the State of Israel. Shimon Peres was a key figure in Israel’s history due to his lifelong efforts to secure peace with Israel’s neighbours. He was rightfully awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994.

Already in 1996 he founded the Peres Center for Peace, Israel’s leading organization promoting peacebuilding between Israel and its neighbours. His Royal Highness, the Crown Prince of Denmark, met with President Peres during his visit to Israel in 2013.

I would like to pass my heartfelt condolences to the family of Shimon Peres and the people of Israel. Denmark and Israel share a strong and long lasting relationship. I am convinced we will continue to expand these relations for the good of our people.
