The government allowance is adjusted twice a year in accordance with development of the pay index for state sector employees. As of 1 October 2016, the civil list payment totals DKK 6,637,075.03 a month, of which HRH Prince Henrik receives 10 percent and HRH Princess Benedikte receives 1.5 percent, corresponding to DKK 663,707.50 and DKK 99,556.13 respectively.
The government allowance covers the expenses of The Queen and Prince Henrik relating to staff, operation of the Royal Household, administration and properties as well as expenses of a more private nature. For Princess Benedikte, the allowance covers expenses connected to official obligations.
In addition to the government allowance for The Queen, the Civil List Act provides an allowance of DKK 1,633,692.36 a month for HRH The Crown Prince, of which HRH The Crown Princess receives 10 percent. HRH Prince Joachim gets an allowance of DKK 288,757.52 a month.
Under income tax law and the Act on the Registration of Motor Vehicles, The Queen, Prince Henrik, Princess Benedikte, TRH The Crown Prince and the Crown Princess, and TRH Prince Joachim and Princess Marie are exempted from paying income tax, vehicle registration tax, etc.
The Queen, Prince Henrik, Princess Benedikte, TRH The Crown Prince and The Crown Princess, and TRH Prince Joachim and Princess Marie are subject to the standard regulations concerning payment of death duties, inheritance tax and real property tax.
